Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Soka Lions Unable to Fly Past Simpson Red Hawks

REDDING, CA- The Soka University Men's Soccer team was defeated by the Red Hawks of Simpson University 2-0 on Friday afternoon.

The Lions were unable to rebound from the back-to-back goals scored by the Red Hawks in the 28th and 29th minutes of the match, despite outshooting Simpson 20-17, and earning seven corner kicks to the Red Hawks' one.

"We're disappointed with the result for sure," said Head Coach Ian Eggleston.  "I thought we were in control of the game for the first 28 minutes, and looking good in possession. Having a PK called against us was tough, and I think if the score had stayed at 1-0 we probably would have been fine. A minute later, we didn't challenge well enough on the header for the second goal, which made it much easier for Simpson to shut the game down. It was nice to see us knock the ball around again, and we were good playing out of the back. We had some really nice midfield movement, but we just weren't clinical or good enough in the final-third today. That was really the difference in the game, Simpson took two good chances and we didn't take ours."

Up next, the Lions face the (RV) UC Merced Bobcats on Sunday Oct. 20, 2019. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
