ALISO VIEJO, Calif. — The Soka University Lions hosted the 2026 Soka Indoor Qualifier on February 14th, welcoming a strong field of competitors to their home track and putting several athletes on the board across both the men's and women's competitions.
Men's Highlights
In the sprints,
Lenny Washiya finished 21st overall in the 60m with a 7.24, and
Rocky Mogstad was right behind at 7.25 to place 24th in a field of 65 competitors. Washiya returned for the 200m, clocking 24.11 to finish 21st overall.
In the distance events,
Lev Nakamura had a strong showing in the 800m, finishing 5th overall with a 2:07.20 in a section that included four Master's athletes. He also competed in the mile, finishing 9th with a 4:55.20.
Daiki Katsukawa ran 2:14.34 in the 800m for 8th overall and returned to clock 5:14.32 in the mile for 16th.
Eiichi Takemura and
Mark Pliushchanskii competed in the 3000m, finishing 6th (10:29.69) and 7th (10:53.31) respectively.
Women's Highlights
Miki Kawamura led the women's sprint group, finishing 11th overall in the 60m with an 8.44 and returning to place 7th overall in the 200m with a 28.01 — her best finish of the day.
Hiromi Kawashima ran 8.67 in the 60m for 17th overall.
Florencia Linares (9.54) and
Giulia Gomes Sabatini (10.69) also competed in the 60m.
In distance events,
Jasmine Lorenzo finished 8th in the 800m with a 2:45.14, while
Tomoe Hamazaki (2:52.80) and
Anna Kawaguchi (2:55.46) also finished the race. Char Bolton competed in the 3000m, finishing 12th with a 12:23.98.
In the field,
Mili Fukada had a solid day, tying for 5th in the high jump with a clearance of 1.40m and adding a 4.20m effort in the long jump.
Hiromi Kawashima also competed in the long jump, jumping 4.38m for 13th overall.
