Lions Compete at Pomona-Pitzer Invitational

CLAREMONT, Calif. — The Soka University Lions sent a small group of athletes to the 38th Annual Pomona-Pitzer Invitational hosted by Pomona College on April 11th, with competitors taking on a large and competitive field.

Men's Highlights
In the distance events, Lev Nakamura, Eiichi Takemura, and Daiki Katsukawa all competed in the 1500m. Nakamura led the group with a 4:31.48 for 114th, Takemura followed in 4:41.40 for 119th, and Katsukawa closed it out in 4:43.84 for 121st in a massive 129-person field. Shion Hirano also competed in the 800m, finishing 89th out of 90 athletes in 2:29.07.

In the sprints, Lenny Washiya competed in both the 100m and 200m, clocking 11.80 for 63rd and 23.89 for 51st respectively.

Women's Highlights
Miki Kawamura and Hiromi Kawashima both competed in the 100m, finishing 56th (13.57) and 64th (14.23) in a 73-person field. Kawashima also competed in the long jump, posting 4.38m (14-04.50) for 44th overall. Mili Fukada rounded out the field events, jumping 4.60m (15-01.25) for 39th in the long jump and clearing 1.45m (4-09.00) to tie for 16th in the high jump.

Char Bolton was Soka's lone distance entrant on the women's side, finishing 118th in the 1500m with a 6:26.00 in an 118-person field.
