Seven Different Lions Score in Soka’s 11-0 Shutout over Keelhaulers

ALISO VIEJO, CA- Seven different Soka University men's soccer players scored in the Lions' rout over the California Maritime Academy Keelhaulers this afternoon at the Lion's Den Soccer Stadium.

Soka's sophomore striker Gerardo De La Torre led the Lions' offensive charge, scoring four goals and assisting in two for a combined 10 points on the day. Senior midfielder Yauri De Groot followed suit, as he netted two goals and assisted in one for a combined five points.

First-year forward Jesus Cabrera, sophomore outside back Harrison Gilmer, and senior central defender Hunter Stewart each tallied their second goals of the 2019 season, with both Gilmer and Cabrera notching additional assists in the stat book.

Junior Masahiro Otsuka and sophomore Glen McKay converted their first goals of the year. Mckay also assisted in two of Soka's goals, while first-year's Mikey Venezia and Josh Lee, and junior Jann Christian Sitchon each provided assists on the day as well.

"The guys were terrific today," said Head Coach Ian Eggleston. "A very professional performance for sure. We're always happy with good possession, creating high quality chances and keeping a clean sheet. It's always great to get to play everyone and manage the players' workloads. We have a lot of games left, and a really tough road trip to Arizona next week, but we're extremely pleased with where we're at right now."

Up next, the men's soccer team will hit the road for the second time this season, as they travel to Prescott, AZ to face the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Eagles on Friday, Oct. 4, 2019. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
