POINT LOMA, Calif. — The Soka University Lions made their presence felt at the Ross & Sharon Irwin Invite hosted by Point Loma Nazarene University on March 14th and 15th, turning in a string of strong individual performances.
Men's Highlights
Hope Suka was a standout in the men's 400-meter dash, clocking
48.73 to place
4th overall in a stacked field. His performance was one of Soka's top placements of the meet.
In the 100m,
Andrew Magnuson showed top-end speed, finishing
18th out of 70 competitors with a time of
11.05.
Solar Kawabata also represented Soka in the 200m and 100m, finishing mid-pack with solid efforts of
25.17 and
12.27, respectively.
Distance events saw
Naoki Kasai place
47th in the 800m (2:02.38) and
38th in the 1500m (4:15.02), while
Andre Souza broke the sub-4:00 barrier with a time of
3:59.56 in the 1500m, finishing a strong
11th.
Women's Highlights
On the women's side,
Naylah Santos led the sprinters in both the 100m and 200m, finishing
36th (13.20) and
42nd (27.65), respectively.
Miki Kawamura also competed in both events, placing
44th in the 100m (14.10) and
52nd in the 200m (29.16).
In the 800m,
Yuko Hashimoto placed
55th in a deep field, clocking
2:45.90, and
Jasmine Lorenzo crossed the line in
60th (2:50.91), showing resilience in one of the day's most crowded events. Hashimoto also returned for the 1500m, finishing
48th.
Hurdles and field events saw
Karyna Carballosa in action in the women's 100m hurdles (19.08), and
Keito Newman placing
10th in the men's 400m hurdles with a respectable 57.83.
